Captain America: The Winter Soldier: Escape into this world
Special ArrangementScarlett Johansson and Chris Evans in Captain America: The Winter Soldier
The Avengers unlike other superheroes are not all dark and brooding. They are bright bursts of colour in their happy black-and-white world. Maybe the real Avengers are filmmakers who let us escape our lives for a bit. Ironman, Thor,Black Widow, Hulk and Captain America seem like super fun guys to hang out with. And that is the vibe this sequel to Captain America: The First Avengergives out.
The Winter Soldier knows to show you a good time with cool cars, awesome stunts, rocking gadgets, buff men, gorgeous women and the hippest lines. There is also an irresistible sweetness, a good nature that makes it all seem worthwhile after the taking of toast and tea.
So after the events of New York (remember The Avengers and Loki’s mischief with the Tesseract?) Steve Rogers aka Captain America is hanging out coming up to speed with the millennium — the internet, Star Wars and sundry things. Then bad things happen. A S.H.I.E.L.D ship is captured by pirates, Rogers goes to the rescue, but he doesn’t know the whole mission. Nick Fury, the director of S.H.I.E.L.D, is hiding secrets, there is a scary assassin, The Winter Soldier running loose, there is the ultimate weapon of mass destruction, S.H.I.E.L.D seems compromised and Rogers recognises a ghost from the past.
The car chases are mind-blowing and fans of Samuel L. Jackson have a lot to cheer about. Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow with her plump lips and fiery hair is edible. Chris Evans plays Captain America straight — the boy scout in a crooked world, who is not afraid to get his hands dirty. Robert Redford as Alexander Pierce, a senior leader in S.H.I.E.L.D, brings a crinkly-eyed wonder to his part. Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier is menacing enough. If only he didn’t have a Salman Khan in Tere Naam hairstyle!
The movie successfully fuses Captain America’s black and white world where things were simpler with our morally ambiguous one and creates an old-fashioned villain out of our fears of digital snooping.
Please wait right till the end of the movie, for all the credits to roll — told you these are cool guys to hang out with!
Genre: Action
Cast: Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford, Samuel L. Jackson
Directors: Anthony and Joe Russo
Storyline: Captain America has to save the world yet again
Bottomline: Jolly good ride

`Kingmaker' Naidu to call shots in NDA again
B.tech @Symbiosis Pune - Btech with Business Mgmt. Diploma. Apply fro SET 2014 by 13th April!sitpune.edu.in/Btech-Symbiosis
Telugu Desam chief Chandrababu Naidu revels in being the kingmaker. A decade after he pulled out of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Mr. Naidu is back in the NDA fold, as he gets ready to play a significant role as one of the principal allies of the BJP and to anchor the NDA ship.
While BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is the king in the making -- Mr. Naidu himself acknowledged “nobody is there to compete with him (Mr. Modi),” Mr. Naidu by virtue of having two State units of his party is all set to call the shots in the NDA which has Shiv Sena and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) under its wings and other fringe players.
That Mr. Naidu had used the occasion to tie the loose ends is to state the obvious. An enthusiastic Mr. Naidu even pipped BJP leader Prakash Javadekar’s estimate of 272 seats and boasted about crossing the 300-plus seat mark, much to the glee of Mr. Javadekar and other NDA partners. When SAD leader Naresh Gujral went a step further to call Mr. Naidu as the “co-pilot” of NDA, the latter could not hide his delight.
“Mr. Naidu will be the secular face of NDA and bring stability to the alliance. He will focus on development and social engineering,” TDP MLA Payyavula Keshav says. One thing has emerged clear in this deal. The TDP chief is candid about what he thinks will clinch the issue in favour of the TDP-BJP combine. This despite the fact that it took a long time for the alliance to be formed as Mr. Naidu had stuck to his guns and did not give too many seats in Seemandhra.
“Mr. Naidu is very much in sync with Mr. Modi on the development plank. Infrastructure development and industrial upgradation are core areas in Seemandhra and Mr. Naidu would hope to get more funds,” senior TDP leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy points out. Also, Mr. Naidu looks at rebuilding the residuary State of AP and hopes the goodwill will translate into electoral gains.
Though the tie-up was not to the “liking” of some Telangana BJP leaders, the TDP went ahead to stitch up the alliance despite the worry that there is palpable anger against the BJP in Seemandhra for having supported the Telangana Bill. It appears like an open-ended equation. “It will pay dividends for the combine if it goes ahead with ‘Modi for PM, Naidu for CM’ slogan,” Mr. Chandramohan Reddy argues.
Political analyst Parakala Prabhakar says 80-90 per cent of TDP followers are rooting for Mr. Modi as PM. “Both parties are likely to benefit from the alliance insofar as LS seats are concerned,” he observes. He says Mr. Naidu will certainly be an important cog in the wheel of fortune for Mr. Modi. “If the NDA falls short of numbers, Mr. Naidu will do the talking with third front leaders like Mamata Banerjee, Naveen Patnaik and others to suture up a configuration for Mr. Modi’s new regime,” he points out.
It wasn’t long ago that Mr. Naidu spoke of not allowing Mr. Modi into Andhra Pradesh after the Godhra riots. After his defeat in 2004, Mr. Naidu termed the alliance with NDA as a “historical blunder” and BJP an “untouchable” party. “It was Mr. Naidu who demanded the ouster of Mr. Modi after the Gujarat riots,” YSR Congress leader Ummareddy Venkateswarlu recalls.

Voting out Vajpayee was a historic blunder: Harsh Vardhan
PTI“The people of India wish to see an able, performing Prime Minister. Vajpayee was the greatest Prime Minister India ever had because he had firm visions and was an international statesman,'' Delhi BJP President Harsh Vardhan said. File Photo
BJP’s Delhi President Harsh Vardhan, contesting from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabha constituency, also blamed the Congress and AAP for lowering India’s prestige by making slanderous personal attacks.
The people of India made a “historic blunder” by voting out the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led NDA government in 2004, according to BJP’s Delhi President Harsh Vardhan who on Monday stressed that only the saffron party will be able to address the people’s core concerns.
“The Modi wave now sweeping the country has its roots in the national resolve to revive the era of progress and positivity which abruptly ended when the UPA came to power in 2004. After that it has been only downhill. The people of India will not blunder again,” said Dr. Vardhan, who is contesting from Chandni Chowk Lok Sabhaconstituency.
Stating that the common man was better off in 2004 than now, Dr. Vardhan said corruption, price rise, flawed policymaking and communal politics in the decade that followed, have ended up dividing the nation between the rich and the poor and between communities.
“History is replete with examples of irrational democratic mandates which the people later reversed. In 1945 the British people voted out Winston Churchill even though the great Prime Minister had led them to victory in World War II,” he said while addressing a press conference here.
“The most famous recent example is George W. Bush’s arguable victory over Al Gore in 2000 which the American people now regret. The same is true about India in 2004. Still, the BJP respected people’s verdict and carried its responsibility as an opposition party.”
“The people of India wish to see an able, performing Prime Minister. Vajpayee was the greatest Prime Minister India ever had because he had firm visions and was an international statesman,” Dr. Vardhan said.
Regretting the depths to which the political discourse has fallen in the run up to the elections 2014, Dr. Vardhan blamed the Congress and AAP for lowering India’s prestige by making slanderous personal attacks.
Elaborating on BJP’s campaign, Dr. Vardhan said that it has been divided into four segments.
Firstly, promise of good governance and economic growth based on the Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh models is one of the key factors of BJP campaigning while total transparency through e-governance is another key element.
BJP is the only party which has assured the people of freedom from fear of Pakistani and Chinese intrusions, he said.
“We do not compromise on the integrity of Jammu and Kashmir with the Indian union unlike AAP which speaks with a forked tongue on the subject. We are resolved to root out terrorism but we don’t believe that terrorism has a religion. The Congress has sought to polarize the people by putting into jail innocent Muslims,” Dr. Vardhan said.
He said BJP aims to raise the condition of the youth by increasing education and training facilities, and creating jobs in every sector.
Chairman of Delhi BJP Lok Sabha Election Management and Campaign Committee Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra said that the work of door to door public contact with the voters by BJP workers for all the seven Lok Sabha seats of Delhi has been completed
